I am going to add a Bimini top and have thought it might be a great place to mount a few solar panels. Our Hunter 23 stays in the water all summer and on it's trailer with the mast up in the winter. Guess Im thinking of a semi permanent installation since taking them on and off isn't an issue.

Anyone tried using a Bimini top frame for Solar panels?

Yep, works great. I have 2 on my aft bimini section and plan to add 2 to the forward section soon. Just make sure you have enought clearance for the boom.

I was thinking of sizing the solar panels large enough to be the hardtop, just mount them to a bimini frame and forego the sunbrella fabric altogether.

Hi, try getting some semiflex panels, there are available in eBay, several sizes, also comes custom fit. I place 2 80watts panels on top of my bimini.

jrpla,
The Hunter 25 in the slip next to me does the same thing. He only opens the bimini when he's aboard, and so that is the only time he is using flexible panels to charge.
