I am about to install a Bimini on my Mac 26S. It came with screws to install all hardware. Will this hold up, or do I need bolts and nuts? Also wondering if anyone has ever used Lexan for sealing deck hardware. Living where I do, it is hard to find marine sealants and this stuff is available at the local hardware store. Also the directions claim that it can be applied in any weather. "Any weather " is pretty much guarenteed in Montana in the spring! Any thoughts?

Blake: Not sure what you are referring to when you say "used Lexan for sealing deck hardware".

You should use something like butyl/caulking for all the screw hole penetrations in the fiberglass/gelcoat to prevent water infiltration.

You can get anything you want for marine applications via the mail/ups. You just need to correct product for the application.

Blake....You can find the right butyl chalking here on the store site I do believe.... I will try and refrain from giving you a hard time about the wrong use of the word lexan.... We can blame it on that damn auto spell check fetcher.:cussing:

I think that Blake is referring to LEXEL which is a sealant similar to silicone but much, much better. Still may not be the best product for the job.

Your bimini frame should be thru bolted not screwed into the fiberglass. Imagine a summer thunderstorm blowing at 70+ MPH and you and crew standing underneath........
The real issue is can you get access to the back side?

lexel

Yep, I ment to say Lexel, not Lexan. Can't even blame it on spell check. I should not depend on my memory, first thing in the morning, before coffee!
