It depends!
Hello Mark, Glad to see your comming along on the boat. I installed a bimini on my boat and configured it to reach just under the boom. I guess it is about 4 or 5 inches under the boom when in the up position. It reaches forward enough to cover the companionway in the event of rain and I can still walk under it. I can lean my head back while under sail and still see the windex and boom position. I have to lift the boom just a little during the raising and lowering when the sail has been furled.The boat of course did not come with a bimini so I had to just figure it out. With the 23 being a smaller boat, there is not a lot of room on the gunnels or in the cockpit. I configured my bimini to lay just inside the cockpit and slide completly to the rear out of the way. It lays in that space just at the deep inside corner and does not interfer with sitting or leaning back on the cockpit wall. I can keep it in three positions....( closed and down, closed and up leaning on back stay, or open and up.) Of course haveing it able to store means the canopy does not extend outside the cockpit which would have been good for hard rain. It works fine in a light rain. This year I plan on installing zippers along the front edge of the bimini and some snaps on the cabin top to allow for a mock dodger made out of clear window material.
