I am looking for a source for a bimini for our 1985 Hunter 28.5.

28.5 Bimini

Tom, they have them on this site or most good boat canvass shops can custom make one. If you need a picture of one, let me know. Tom, 28.5, 87'

Isn't the boom to low

I wanted to install a Bimini some time ago but after measuring, I noticed that the boom was about 8" to low to make something that I could stand up in while it was in place. The option was to cut the mainsail and modify the mast. I ended up just making an awning that attached to the dodger. Needless to say, I can only use it when I am at anchor or under motor. You might want to measure yourself before you buy one for your boat.

Bimini, Dodger & Boom on the 28.5

Allen, I was in the Keys for two weeks, and missed your post when it was new. My 87 H285 has both a bimini & dodger. Sailing with either up requires finesse. If sailing downwind with the dodger up, the mainsheet tends to rub on the side of the dodger. Adjusting the traveler to leeward helps. The rig on my 28.5 may be different than yours, because I merely have a very tight clearance between boom and bimini. I'm 6'2", and can't stand straight up if the bimini is open -- have to scrunch a little. However, the boom does have clearance, although I usually keep the topping lift taught as an extra precaution.
