I am close to purchasing a C22 and am wondering how easy / realistic it is to add a Bimini. Also, recommendations on where to find one that specifically is made to fit the 22 would be great. Thanks
I installed a bimini on my 74 C-22. It was from Catalina Direct and was easily done. They have a variety of fabrics. Their web address is:http://www.catalinadirect.com/They also have extensive support for repairs and upgrades on C-22's.Good sailing. Jim
I also bought a bimini from Catalina Direct. I'm not sure exactly how direct it was though. It was shipped from the Fore Deck who I assume manufactured it. Easy to assemble dispite the horrible instructions. You may have to disassemble a few times before you get it put together right. The hardest part is working the straps through the canvas. I haven't actually sailed with it yet. This will be my first year with it, but it looks really sharp. I only wish it matched my sail cover which is Pacific Blue.
Sailnet, the old JSI, made our bimini. They were fast, reasonable, and we are pleased with the quality. They are in Florida and make them for Catalina when Catalina gets backed up. Because of this relationship they can match the Catalina fabrics. Secondly, they have all the dimensions needed for Catalinas, or can get them easily.
I have been sailing with a bimini for twelve years now and it is the only way to go on a hot sunny day. You and your crew will love it. Our boat is a 1981 S/N 10302 which we sail out of CSA on Carlyle Lake in IL., and which we trailer to the Pensacola FL area every Spring for a week of sailing the Gulf waters out of Pirate's Cove.
