Bimini for a 30T

I will be doing some extended sailing this summer on my '93 30T and really would like some protection from the sun.I've never seen a Bimini on my type of boat and it does look as though this may be a little difficult to achieve as the boom sits rather low.Does anyone have any information regarding putting some type of Bimini on a 30T.

A Little Head Room

Bert, I have a 88 30 with a standing head room bimini. I had the local sailmaker remove a triangle section from the bottom of the main to get the rear end of the boom up. I located my bimini rather far aft so that I can stand on the bridge deck without bending over. Standing at the wheel I am directly in the fore/aft center, but it does extend over the rear of the boat. Nice when grilling out back, but you have to be a little careful if the stern is close to tall pilings. If I had a picture I would send it to you. The split back stays just pass through some grommets on the way up.Frank

dodger extention

I have a dodger extention, it attaches to the rear end of my dodger, going up with window just back of the boom and goes beyond my split backstay with chafe leather sewed to the canvas around where the stays come through. At the very back a stainless tube (removable) runs through onto a bimini type frame. I get full protection from the sun and rain (it rains alot here) and when hot I open the front window of the dodger and ge a great flow of air. No problem sailing with this system.Hope this helps.

Make your own bimini

You can make your own bimini. I used 7/8 aluminum tubing and glued in 3/4 dowel for the joints. You can buy the fittings at most boats shops.

You can have a bimini

Bert,You can have a bimini, but you probably can not use it with the main sail because of the height of the boom. My 1991 30T has a nice bimini but you have to raise the boom about 6 or 8 inches to be able to deploy it. I only use it when we're on the hook or eating. You could get one that would be shorter and not be in the way but the head room would be marginal.
