I WOULD APPRECIATE INFORMATION (& PICTURES) ON BIMINIS FOR A 28.5. HAS ANYONE ORDERED ON FROM THIS SITE'S CHANDLERY?

Bimini's

Hey Dick, I had the same question and went to Hunter. They directed me to Ameriseam, Tampa, FL (800) 755-7221 (Jim). He told me for my 30' it would be $750, but they used stainless steel tubing and Sunbrella cloth. My concern was to clear my boom under close hauled sailing. He assured me it would. That's more important to me than the cost. Haven't ordered it yet, but must do by Spring to replace my generic bimini. It is pretty hot down here during the Summer without a bimini.

I've got a bimini

My 28.5 has a bimini, and in the heat of the day it is my favorite accessory onboard. The boom does clear it nicely on all points of sail. Folding it and unfolding it sometimes means tightening the topping lift or swinging the boom out. This is because the arch of the forwardmost frame of the bimini is greater than the height of the canvas once it is set. I hope that makes sense. Anyway, once you see how it works putting it out or taking it in takes only seconds. Of course you can't stand at the wheel when it is up, and it is right overhead when folded away (because of the split backstay). This means that it is slightly in the way when standing directly behind the wheel. I have found that you get used to it, but when I first bought the boat this troubled me. Now when I am standing at the wheel I usually stand to one side or the other, visability is better and it keeps me from rubbing my head on the bimini. My wife has none of these problems, she's 5'2". I'm 5'11". Good luck I hoped this info helped.

Just Purchased Bimini for 28.5

I just had a new helmsman(or half) bimini made for my 85 28.5. I am very pleased with the result. My cost was $450.00. I had a local marine canvas company come out size it custom make it and install it. It has been great I should take some pictures of it and show it to anyone interested. Let me know if anyone is interested in a picture. Here are the two options as I see it that I had to make as I studied a bimini for my boat. To get a full cockpit bimini high enough to stand under (I'm 5'11") I would have to raise the boom and change the size of my main sail. The other option was to go with a helmsan or half bimini and keep the main sail and boom as it was. I chose the latter and am very pleased with the result.
