I am having a bimini built for my h 30T 1991. the measurment from the cockpit floor to the bottom of the boom is only about 70 inches. Quite short to be able to stand up an sail with the bimini up and hard to crawl out on the deck. Short of cutting the foot of the sail, any ideas of how to work in a bimini on this boat?

No Problem

I have the same boat and my bimini works great. I have to keep a little tension on the topping lift when I sail - a small price to pay to have shade. I have not measured the height but I can easily stand at the wheel. I had mine made by Wolfe Sails in Topeka, Kansas.

BIMINI

i have a 450 and a full bimini which of course is no problem with headroom. i live aboard and it makes good storage in winter and another room for the kids in good weather or adults. when i want to i unzipper the sides, if i want sun i sit on the rear seats and use the remote.

bimini for 30T

Hi, I have a bimini on my 91 30T and it works great. As the other guys was saying, I have to adjust the topping lift to put on my main cover. There is not much room from the bimini cover and the boom. I'm not sure what my length is. Jim

You gota cut!

Hey Ed, I'm not far from you, I keep my boat in Deltaville at Stingray. Anyway I've got an 89 Hunter 30 and had the same problem of course. At first I tried to just adjust the topping lift. I worked fine on a broad reach in light winds, the extra draft was great. But close to the wind performance was pitiful. I called Quantum Sails in Deltaville and discussed the problem, they said I had to cut the sail. I agreed and had it done. One hundred and fifty dollars latter I had a sail that worked great. Cut it for sure! I believe I took 16 inches from the foot. I took it from the clew only! I did not move the boom! In other words the foot is cut on an angle like the new hunters. As an added bonus I had the sail rebuilt as a loose footed sail. Now I can increase or decrease draft as desired. Good luck, and sail fast!

Flaten Reef

The other option would be to just put a flatening reef point which is used on racing sails which basically is a reef point grommet installed about 6" or so above the clew.Only the leach is adjusted which flattens the main somewhat, which may be a good thing if your main has any age on it. I have a 1990 H30 with 74" head room at the wheel under the bimini and I only have to adjust the topping lift with the main down. Good luck !

Bimini Hunter 30 1991

I had a Bimini made for my Hunter 30. I too was concerned about headroom. A good canvas man can measure the clearance and easily build a Bimini which will allow you to sail your boat with perfect shade. I had one built by Almo products in Millersville near Annapolis for around $1000 I am really pleased with them. They built it quickly and were very helpful. Other canvas makers in this area were not so helpful or quick to respond. Let me know and I will send you my specs.
