Hello

I have a 79 Catalina 30. The electric bilge hose is connected to the galley sink drain and therefore bilges out below the water line. I am assuming that is not how it was origonally designed. Most electric bilges i have seen exhaust above the water line and do not share a line with any other drains. i had a problem when the thru hull for the sink drain was shut off and the bilge went off the water would shoot up thru the sink in the galley and head. Does anybody have any advice on this.

Thanks

Dwayne

I suggest you try to find manuals about your boat. Best source is the C30 Association, www.catalina30.com, one of the few .com instead of .org, I think, if not try .org.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
That is not correct. The bilge pump needs to run on its own line to the stern of the boat. There are many posts about this on the forum, but I suggest you fix this in short order.

Whoa, Dwayne, talk about someone cutting corners!

Another comment...the bilge pump on my boat was installed many years ago. The exit thru-hull is next to the cockpit scuppers underneath the transom. Under way, this is often submerged, and if you pump & switch the pump off it can (and does!) siphon back in as the 'siphon break loop' is also back at the transom and not tall enough.

When I replace my hose in the near future, my plan is to extend the loop higher above the waterline and probably add an anti-siphon valve in the line similar to the engine exhaust loop (near the galley sink on my A-4 equipped boat...probably in the same spot, since I think there is enough room in there for another loop assembly.

Thanks, just took it out of the water today for the winter. Good project for me until the ice is gone in May
