Hello All, I bought a 1984 O'day 39 last year and it's strange as it's the only boat I have seen that collects the shaft drip under the engine and then when the water is high enough it runs through pasage ways foward and down into the bilge. some of the wiring to the engine goes through one of these pasage ways so if the water is high enough as when I'm flushing it out the wiring is under water. any one have the same set up on their boat ? please get in touch. Thanks jules

Pretty much the same

on our 37. But I keep oil pads under the engine. It's always wet there as the water, etc., makes its way to the sump.

deep water

it's not just wet under my engine it's a 2" deep pool sloshing around, I can't keep pads under there.

water under engine

Same here, when the water level gets high enough, it does end up in the bilge where it can be pumped out. Have you folks checked the shaft packing or replaced it??? That seems to be the big source of water on my boat, the packing will be replaced this year. When engine is not running (shaft not spinnning) water does a drip every so often, but when the shaft is spinning, it should still continue to do a drip, but in my case it was a trickle-therefore the water build up.. happy sailing

bilge water

I wonder if you could get a thin piece of cloth or other material that lies in the 'pool' and goes up and passes thru to the bilge that would wick the water as it collect? don't know just a thought. gene

thanks for the reply's

thanks for the replies. I think I will try to find a way to drill a hole lower so the water is free flowing down to the bildge as it runs down instead of collecting under the engine.
