Bilge Water sloshing into storage areas

On our 1979 H 27 ,as expected the bilge collects water.. .from who knows where. This is not a problem, as the bilge pump pumps most out,but not all. The problem is when sailing and in particular when heeling over, the bilge water sloshes into the storage areas below the side berths. The water flows through the hole where wiring is routed so it seems unreasonable to seal it ( in case access to wiring is necessary). Once the water is in the storage area it does not flow back because of the contours and elevations when sailing flat. Have any of you devised a solution?

Yep

Fix the leaks, sail dry. I do and have for over 17 years. The boat should not leak or collect water.

Better Switch?

Bilge pump is not pumping enough out... I fixed mine and no more water in storage.

Stay Dry

I've had my 27 for 13 years. The ice box drains into the bilge and because it is so shallow it can fill it up quickly. The stuffing box also is a good contributor to the bilge if it is dripping like it supposed too. The best solution I have found is to run the bilge pump before going out for a sail -- and if you really want to keep things dry -- lift the floor boards and use a hand held pump with a bucket and suck out as much water as possible. If you have a rail in the water day you may still find h2o in the settee storage areas -- store stuff in those areas in 5 gallon plastic containers and you'll be much happier. Then a small sponge and a little bucket will be all you need to get things dry again.
