i looked at hundreds of boats before i finaly decided on the sharpie design. When i say sharpie design, i mean the basic shape, i have made several modifications to strengthen the hull, even made a few exterior hull changes, the only problem with that is i have increased the weight by probly a 1/4 or 1/3 the original projected weight. I am a carpenter, i build custom homes, so i have access to alot of different material, and it is verry hard for me not to add extra lumber for strength.but im building on the cheap, like i said, im using leftover material from work, so the biggest cost so far was the plywood, glue, ill be using all different types of wood, from pecan, cherry, maple, oak, ash ect. I like the mixed woods, if somthing rots i will just replace it. I changed from SG, I added chines, sheer clamps, and other stuff i probly should have left off.
I really like the cat ketch rig, but i am considering adding a small jib, not really sure how well it work, but the experimentation should be fun.
I like the idea of an unstayed mast, not so wind jerky, easier heeling motion, alot of characteristics that i like, although the main, and a jib may be to much for an unsupported mast to support , any ideas other than stiffening mast? i havent quite figured it all out yet, but im well on my way, my pics are a little messed up :) she is a 23ft with sharpie influances , 8ft beam, and answers to the name bilge rat
