What type of bilge pump does everyone use in their Catalina 22? I am looking for one and am not sure what to buy or even look for. Thanks Dale

pump

I don't have one but if I were going to install one, it would be in the area of the volcano. This is where both the volcano and cockpit drains exit the boat. If one were going to install a pump this is the area I believe it would be needed in. You might also remember the forward holds are not going to let any water run aft unless the boat is quite full unless you open a drain hole between the the holds (limber holes). Its my understanding that the pumps gph rating change dramatically in its ability to discharge rated flow as the hight of the hose exit changes. I would look at a minimum of 2000 gph if I were adding a pump.

Cockpit drains.

Ken, Have you considered changing to the newer style rear transom scuppers? From what I understand at CD Direct, they clog less frequently and remove water at a rate of 6 time faster than the forward ones of the older style C22s. ~Bilbo

transom drains

I will be adding the transom drains soon but not from CD (too high for me) I can buy the tool and drain tubes for $35.00. They will be only 1 1/4" but thats ok I'll have two. On the early model 22 (pre 87 maybe mid 86) the cockpit floor sloops forward so one must keep the cockpit drains. Honestly there isn't much left I can do to my boat. Converting the sleeping arrangements soon. Now if I could only get Garhaur to hurry and send back my motor mount I could go sailing..lol

Transom Drains

I kind of agree with you about the CD price for these things. I always 'shop' when I'm looking at their items but if one doesen't have the equipment such as the hole saw, the west system epoxy to coat the pre-cut plywood backing boards and such then it may be reasonable. I know that I was looking at replacing my internal halyard exit blocks with their products and ended up making two sheaves out of aluminum that should last longer and it only cost me my time. However for the trouble, the masthead sheaves that I also replaced were reasonably priced at CD to me.
