I have an 85' 28.5 and neither bilge pump is currently working. I also can not fine the pumps. Do I have to pull the sole of the boat up or is there another way to get to this pumps. Also is the two or is one pump doing both jobs.

I had a 86 28.5 for several years. 1 bilge pump only. Under cabin sole. Lift the teak & holly trap door (about 7" wide 20" long) and there it is, easily serviced. The shower pan doesn't have a pump, it should empty into the bilge. Good luck

Just like Claude's, my 87 28.5's bilge pump is under the cabin sole directly in the center, approx. 2ft. aft of the mast compression post. It's a fairly small bilge. My single Rule 500 empties out the starboard side.To my knowledge, most are run through the electrical panel w a switch but will also turn on automatically if needed with the main DC power "off". I'd get out the volt-meter!!!

FYI -Check the capacity on the bilge pump fuse. On mine there was an unusually large capacity fuse and it eventually fried the pump. ;< Live and learn.

did it ever work, and are u sure u have one , or is it just the switch of bilge pump gone bye. The reason i ask is that most electric bilge pumps are not installed as self priming and the location that everyone is directing you to is the correct and logical place for it to be.

Bilge Pump Locations
The Bilge Pump is located under the floor of the cabin just aft of the mast. If you remove the access hatch just forward of the companion way steps, you can remove the section of flooring just forward of tht to access the bilge pump. As far as I know, there is only one bilge pump.

Now that you found it, check the capacity of the fuse- very inportant, Rule packaging will tell you exactly what it should be. Secondly, I put an alarm on my bilge pump. Went to Radio Shack and bought a DC alarm and wired it into the bilge line so that every time it starts pumping, I can hear it topside. ( Also inserted a cut out switch on the alarm so it doesn't go off at nite when we are at port sleeping. It is good to know as you are going along if you are suddenly pumping water out more frequently. Means you should go below and check matters out.
