Bilge pump

New owner of Hunter 25. No owners manual and I haven't figured out where the water under the cabin floor is going to go. Do I need a bilge pump to remove this or is there something already in place where water will move to when it gets to a certain level.Looking for any copy of original owners manual to instruct on how to put rigging and sails up.Thanks

H-25 Bilge Pumping

On my 1979 H-25 there was no provision for pumping the bilge other than a manuel bilge pump to suck water into a bucket. I have installed a 12v elec. bilge pump and automatic float switch to take care of this problem. Of greater concern I would be concerned with the accumulation of water in my bilges and where it came from, a problem that I thankfully have not had to be worried about in the twenty years that I have owned the boat.

John,Few, if any, smaller boats had factory bilge pumps. I suppose manufacturers thought you are just supposed to suck the muck out the best way you can.I installed a pump in the bilge with an automatic float switch built in and ran a 1" hose under the floorboards and drilled a hole into the starboard cockpit locker and to the stern with an exit thru-hull well above the water line. You need a fairly healthy pump as mine has to lift about 3' through about 12' of hose. I don't ordinarily have any leakage into the bilge but sailing in the rain or swimmers on the weekend can bring water aboard. Not to mention the abominable icebox drain to the bilge! The auto feature does give some peace of mind in case the boat springs a leak while unattended.Dick VanceH-25.5 "Honey Bear"

I have a Hunter 25 1977, I use a sponge to get the water out. The important thing is does it fill up again. If so you may have a keel bolt leaking.

I too have a '77 - 25'I have small leaks in many places, mostle around windows and fittings and I bail as needed with a sponge. I do have the benifit of allways having someone to chech it. Not a lot of room in the bilge to install anything.
