About a month ago I discovered my Rule bilge pump running. I replaced the separate float switch and everything was fine. Until tonight. As I was getting ready to leave I heard the pump running. I moved the float switch up and down and it stopped. I moved the wiring to see if I could get the pump to run with the foat in the down position-no go. I'm concered that this will happen again and drain my batteries. Anyone have other ideas?

Had the same problem.

John: I had the same problem with the individual float switches. I switched over to an all in one unit (pump and switch) from Rule. It just quit on me about 2 weeks ago and I just replaced it with an identical one. I believe that the old one lasted for about 4-5 years. This time I have one sitting on the shelf, just in case. I think I paid $50 from Eastern Marine.

Seewater Bilge Pump Switch

Our Beneteau 321 came only with a manual cycle on the bilge pump. Probably came that way because there is no way mount a conventional float switch or a submerged bilge pump in the shallow and narrow lower bilge on this boat. The OEM bilge pump is actually mounted above with pickup hose and strainer in the bilge. Never liked the idea of not having an automatic bilge system, so I installed the SeeWater switch about 9 months ago and it has been trouble free. The switch is designed to minimize frequent cycling. With no moving parts and no actual exposure to water (works sort of like a proximity switch) , it should last a long time. Good Luck!
