A Canadian company purchased Defender last year about this time.
Ah, the age old business strategy of purchasing a successful and profitable operation and then go in and change everything.
I've seen it many times, rarely seems to work out well.

I watched a series of successful regional dairy companies get purchased by Pepsi Executives. Tried to sell milk like sugar water. It’s all the same. Right. Slow to implement their grand ideas never created a brand. Suffered as milk sales men.
Bankrupt 30% of the milk companies as they went under. The minor things are the same the more they change.

An automatic submersible bilge pump will last 3 to 5 years. A 500 GPH should be enough to discharge the incidental water that accumulates in the bilge. The problem I have with old pumps is that #1) you never know if a new diaphragm kit will properly seal the case and restore pumping action #2) you cannot predict how the old electric motor will respond to the loads of the new diaphragm and how much longer it may last. If it were me I would go ahead and replace the pump with a submersible one for a fraction of the cost of the repair kit. It does not have to be a large pump, like they say " it is the small boats that need the larger pumps as the fill up faster". For safety I would insure having a working manual gusher pump that could be operated while aboard in an emergency. No bilge pump will have the capacity to keep a boat afloat from a significant water intrusion, for that there is no better protection than taking preventive measures by periodical inspections of thru hulls, valves, hoses and clamps. On the other hand if you plan on keeping the boat another 15 to 20 years then bite the bullet and replace the whole pump with a new one.

I put a rebuild kit in it. Works great. I did have to do some rewiring as the old was not up to par.

I will say that I am not a fan of Defender's new website. I'm also disapointed that my order history and wish list data is gone.
Same here. I emailed about my "disappointment" last night. The response basically stated that new website has been a challenging undertaking for them. They did indicate that they still have our history available in house and that they hope to add it back to the new website.

My main complaint is that I have to create a new password, seemingly, every time I login.

They used to be my favorite vendor.
