Just curious... I have fourtyish Benes on each side of me. Both make a sound intermittently which sounds like a diaphragm bilge pump from the outside. Both boats are new to the owners so they don't know. So, is that what it is? No water discharge I see. I was worried but it's been a while now with no I'll effect.

For both to be making the same sound I'm thinking it's normal. But why you don't see a discharge is strange. Could both have the same failure? Maybe it's something else like a Cadillac level control ;)

Could it be seawater cooling pumps for Air Conditioning Rick ? I think some use a below waterline thru hull for intake and discharge.

could be a water sensing bilge pump. It runs a few seconds on a time schedule. If it derects water it continues pumping, if not, it shuts down.

Our air conditioning condensate pump runs intermittently when the AC is on. It's more of a buzzing than a diaphragm pump, but it pumps just a little weep of water so it would explain why you don't really see any water pumped out.

Yep same here..Although in the early morning it does seem louder.

If they have the electrical panel switch for water pressure on, then it may well be the water pump adding pressure to the accumulator. There would be no discharge of water. In my experience accumulators or the systems leak pressure over time such activates the pump to get the pressure back up.

Thanks guys! As I said, I have concluded whatever it is isn't isolated to one boat and seems to be not damaging. So I am no longer concerned. It is a curiosity however.
