I have a 2006 26M and would like to install a bilge pump. Actually I purchased a manual pump and want to install it this weekend. For those that have installed a bilge ump, where did you place it? I was planning to place it all the way in the back and hook into the drain hose for the motor well. Any suggestions?

Good idea

A manual is a good idea. Place near the helm so one person can comfortably pump with one hand and steer the boat with the other. Use large diameter, smooth bore hose with few curves before the outlet. Place the outlet where it would not be under water by more than one foot if the boat were flooded and low in the water. Also have a high capacity electric pump to help out as long as you have power. Place the removeable handle nearby where it can't get lost, and you can find it in the dark by feel. If possible, tie the handle to the pump or the boast so it can't get knocked overboard in a panic. Train everyone on board how to use it.

Electric Pump

Sorry, I meant to say that the bilge pump I purchased is electric but not with the automatic float switch.

suction at bilges lowest point

Place the bilge pump as close to center line s possible, and in the area where most water will collect, probably in the 26M about six feet back from the mast, or aft of the dagger board trunk. If you want to know exactly, poour a gollon of water in the bilge and see where it ends up. IF you have a pump with a removeable screen on the bottom, you can fasten this to the hull so it won't move around. A twist will remove the pump for servicing, or cleaning. If the screen is not removeable, then the outlet hose must be fastened to the boat somewhere close to the pump so it can't move much when severly heeled, as in a knockdown. When the boat is upright you always want the pump to be in the lowest part of the bilge ready to go. Smooth bore pipe to the stern drain is okay if it's up high on the transom, at least aboe the floor. HIgher is better.

Water in 26M

Has anyone had water collect in a 26M? If so where did it collect? Anyone know the lowest point in the bilge? Will the water move to the back or does all water move to the center of the bilge/boat? Anyone installed a bilge pump in the 26M, if so where?

I'm Still Studying My 2005 M For A Bilge Pump

There really is no single good spot to place a bilge pump in the M. I think several would be needed. And considering the whole belly of the boat is is water ballast or hull, you'll have to be careful not to drill into a tank or make a hole in the hull when attaching the pump. I have a single electric pump that I can place where I need it when I need it but that's not a good permanant solution. Actually I have not had even a drop of water collect in the bilge yet. But I need to be ready too. I think there is one good spot. I think I'll be attaching the bilge pumps (probably 3 of them) to the fiberglass 'rib' under the stairs and behind the battery compartment on an 'L' shaped bracket. The 'L' shape will allow me to keep the pump low and attach sideways to the 'rib'. Has anybody done it this way?

battery compartment

I have one in the battery compatment just forward of where a second battery would sit had I not moved my battery to port. There is a very low spot there for leaks aft. in emergencys the port and starboard sections are drilled and would also drain into that spot. You'll need a second pump for the forward section.
