Bilge pump installation revisited

Well guys, I finally tried to follow you instructions installing the bilge pump on my 1978 Catalina and had problems with both methods you suggested. Maybe I just mis-understood what you tried to tell me. I was able to feed the hose from the bilge to under the engine. I could not find the hole Nick talked about so I drilled a hole near the engine mount. I was able to snake a cable through but not the hose. I also looked at running the hose sideways out of the bilge like Rob suggested but I would be drilling right into the hull. So I need some more help. should I cut an access hole in the pan under the engine and add a cover with nipples above and below to run the hose under from the bilge and above under the engine to the stern?

Clarification

It's getting late and my brain must have shut down. What I meant to say in my last question was should I cut an access hole in the pan under the engine and add a cover that allows the hose to be routed from the bilge rearward to the access hole and (with nipples above and above the plate) run the hose above the pan rearward to the stern? Again, any help would be appreciated.

Hey John...

This is Rob - I originally responded to your post. I recommended that you snake the hose under the engine, not through the settee. Would you like me to take a few digital photos this weekend and post them for you? I can do that... it may clarify things a bit. Let me know! Rob

Pictures would really help!

Rob, I would really appreciate it if you would take the pictures. We worked for two or three hours trying to get the hose through and finally gave up. Thanks again! John

Post 'em here

It's pretty easy to post photos here in the Photo Forum - give it a try with these!
