Bilge pump gets weaker and weaker

That makes sense. I'm waiting for the Fox & Hound to arrive before I start trying to rewire anything else. My uncle, an old salt, said I should also just put in an additional bilge pump because I'll never be upset about having two and I can wire the new one correctly and then worry about the old one.

I was thinking I want a 110 AC bilge pump so I could disconnect the batteries and put them somewhere warm for the winter rather than rely on them for the most important job on the boat. Any thoughts on that?

That sounds like a logical temporary solution if you can find one that fits. Better than having the boat sink.

I believe that your boat may have originally come with (2) bilge pumps, (1) at the bottom of the bilge and another high volume pump up higher, the higher one working on a separate float switch and tied to an alarm should the float switch activate, you should also have a manual bilge pump which is operated from the cockpit with the handle stored in one of the cockpit lazarettes.

As a second thought, cold doesn't harm fully charged batteries, so as long as your charging system works you should not have a problem leaving the bats on the boat in a cold atmosphere.

I loose 110 more often than 12v. I’d stay with the battery. If you keep it in the water you need a bit of heat in the boat.

LeslieTroyer -- I'm a 365 liveaboard. It's never below 42ºf if I can help it. (looking forward to the shrink wrap soon). But good point about the 110 possibly going out. It already happened at the marina once in teh past month (tho' not to me). I'd better keep the batteries aboard. Still, it'd be nice to have the ability to run a pump off 110 when it's available.

DayDreamer -- I see the single automatic bilge/float, and a manual pump. I don't see a second bilge pump in there, nor in the documentation. Maybe that came in the Legend format, or in 1986 or something?

Our high water pump is manually triggered from the engine console in the cockpit, there is also and light and a audible alarm should the high water float switch be activated. The pump on ours is mounted at the front end of the keel stub, under the cabin sole.
