I would like to install a bilge pump on my 84' MAC 25. I thought I might place a Y at the self-bailing outlet and use a oneway valve to keep the bilge pumping out only and not backing up into self-bailer. Where is the best place to install in my Mac 25? Obviously the lowest point of the hull but thought readers might have different ideas. Does the Y fitting with a oneway valve sound feasible or do I need to drill a separate hole for the pump outlet? Any help would be appreciated.

I would

I am not familiar with the Mac 25, but I do have some ideas on the subject. I would not plumb it into the self bailer with a check valve. After seeing it, I might consider plumbing into the self bailer, if I could get a vented loop high enough in the hull to prevent any siphoning action. My preferance would be to have a different thru hull, above the water line for the pump. I do agree that the lowest place in the hull is the best location, and install the biggest pump that will fit the space.

Jerry, when you figure it out let us know.

I have a 4" access hole in the middle of the head door-way threshold. That is where the PO installed the knot-meter. I appears to be the lowest point. Right now I use a kids slurp gun that I can pump about a quart of water per slurp and squirt it clear out over the transom without getting up. I have seen mods that included hand pumps (with my luck the battery would run out just as I started to take on water) located under the cockpit bench with a hose that runs from the lowest point to the scupper. I've thought about using the sink drain through hole, It just seems easier to get to and is not being used anyway. Mine is located under the cabin port-side bench seat. (I hate cutting new holes). Just thought I would share some thought I had been exploring. I am also looking forward to hearing other ideas. Thanks, Frank
