* I want to install a bilge pump on my boat, but I thought I would consult all of you first. * Where is the electrical pannel susposed to be mounted. I am not sure mine is mounted in the correct place. New pictures of this project well be posted in the next two weeks. The boat is almost ready for her first shake down. Fair winds to all........

Suggestion

Install a Rule 500 with a float switch and wire it directly to your battery. This way the pump will be fully automatic.

O'day 22 Bilge pump

A friend of mine gave me his old diaphragm pump which is mounted on a board identical to the lower hatch board. You can run the suction to the bilge pocket and the discharge to the cockpit or overboard and operate the pump from the unconfined space of the cockpit. I haven't had to use it yet but for moving a lot of water and not worrying about a battery, it is worth it, IMHO. Bill

O'Day Bilge

Your post is not specific to the area you intend to pump. Interstitial spaces of older hulls require specific knowledge provided by buyers and restorers, or initial builders, and even plain-old seadogs. Do you propose to pump an area that is of concern for a trailered boat? Wet could maybe be good for a moored boat. Once size and space constraints are defined, any engineer or person so inclined, regardless of education, can pump the keel head area of that old red dog dry... See you next weekend, Jim

Bilge pump on an O day22

I just noticed water(just a little) in the bilge about 2 weeks ago.Its coming in from bolts on the rudder. The boat is in the water so i cant repair it until its out of the water.I installed a 360 pump with 8' of garden hose below the cockpit hatch(center of bilge close to cabin)when level goes up,open hatch & hose overboard.$15 dollar investment!!! Good Luck Tommy M
