I just bought a 1986 33 Pearson and need some bilge pump advice. The bilge is so shallow that the pump (Rule 1250) can't get enough of it out. There is about an 1 1/2 of standing water that sloshes to either side of the cabin when heeled over. Not a huge deal, but I'd like a less H2O in the bilge....any suggestions on make or model?

I have a 1986 P36-2 that also has a shallow bilge. Place the pump where the water first collects, but I must say my bilge pump has not had to run in 4 years (I test it periodically and use it when I wash the bilge). I made a mission out of having no leaks and with my gortex packing on my traditional stuffing box (no dripping), my bilge stays bone dry with the exception of rain water down the mast. I use a sponge for that....my boat had damage on the teak and holley sole and alot of engine rust due to the p/o just letting it slosh around continually....it got all over everything and did what it does best. Its just another thing to do while having a beer!

I came from a Cal that had an encapsulated keel and a 5' sump aft of the lead...so nice it was as the engine and all was rust free and bone dry.

Good Luck
Greg
