We are thinking of cutting a space in the floor/deck/sole of the head for a drain area and adding a bilge pump there to keep the water from draining against the compression block in the main bilge. Is there enough room under the floor? I would hate to find out while cutting that I have just made a new thru hull to Puget Sound.

Dont do it
I removed the existing drain grate and ran a 1/2 in line through the existing black rubber tube and down into the bilge and to the rear of the bilge and then up to port where i installed a surflo utility 12 volt pump and then up and out the side through a side through hull above the water line , installed a switch for the pump up on the bathroom wall works super sealed the drain in the shower with sikaflex has been going strong for two years

I agree with windcat. Use what is there don't mess with the head pan there is no room to work with under it. Personally I installed a shower fitting in the port cockpit coaming and plumbed it to the pressure water , it is comfortable sitting on the cockpit sole having a shower and there is no moisture (and resulting mildew etc) from the head shower which in 15 years on our cat 30 we never used.

You should have a vented loop in that line.
