Geeze Im having a hard time finding some plywood to remake
my floor boards.

I seem to need 5/8 inch or 15mm.
But this is not as common as 1/2 or 3/4.

Maybe I can expand my wood type search. Im searching for Sapele or mahogany
plywood. Is there another type that would look good and work well in this
application?

The covers are not that large. Why not use solid mahogany planed to the desired thickness?

Sea legs has for the long board a piece of African Mahogany which I
don't think is a real mahogany but just some African wood renamed.
The color is a little different but still looks fine. I have to
replace the short one and I bought a piece of cherry plywood and
will use it temperately.
I think sapella is hard to find as it is now concidered endangered.
Any Mahogany is pretty close thats what I would use. Doug

How wide is it? The heat generated from the batteries help to keep it dry. Also, you could use two or three strips splined and glued together to minimize the cupping of a single wider piece.

I made Cockpit locker Lids by putting s boars together. I drilled 3
hole over sized each side of each board and I put ashort dowl in
each one coverd in epoxy and i painted the edges with epoxy. I
clamped them together with a couple pipe claps. They are now like a
single wide board and they are strong. The over sized holes meant
that the holes did not have to be quite sio accurately placed and
the epoxy filled the holes round the dowls. IT's an easy task just
measur carful and drill careful and you will have a fine looking
job. There may be some unevenness on the surface of the boards so
knock it down with an orbital sander and a final sanding with fine
paper and a few coats of varnish. It will be beautiful. Try the
fit on a couple old pine boards to get the hang of it. It ain't
that hard. Doug

I am curious, what heat from the batteries. Surely batteries will only get hot when they are being overcharged, otherwise they should only produce the same amount of heat as a small 12V bulb.Geoff#################################################Geoff Blake, G8GNZ JO01fq: Chelmsford, Essex, UKgeoff@... or melecerties@...Using Linux: Ubuntu 11.04 on Intel or Debian on UltraSparcand Apple OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro. I used a biscuit joiner to do mine. You could also cut tongue and grooves with a table saw or a router. The biscuits are the easiest way, but you need the special tool to do it.
