Bilge connections

I have a 2000 built Hunter 410. Can anyone tell me whether the forward bilge section and the after bilge section containing the keel bolts should be inter-connected. The bilge pump on my boat is in the forward section which receives drains from the forward end of the boat. The after section has no bilge pump but receives drains from the after end of the boat. The two compartments are not inter-connected. Therefore the after bilge can only be dried out manually, i.e. with a bailer or sponge. Should there be an inter-connecting drain in the keel bolt area between these two compartments so that the after bilge drains into the forward bilge area and can then be pumped out by the bilge pump.

Hunter 320 bilge stringer holes

Hey - My 2000 Hunter 320 has 1" - 3/4" holes drilled between the fwd and aft bilge. I'd guess the 410 is build in a similar manner with a stringer (or 2) running through the bilge. This stringer is about 6" thick and is hollow on my 320. Some water does end up trapped in the stringer when the bilge is bone dry, but it's not much and soon evaporates. I'd guess the factory missed drilling the holes in the stringer on your 410. Before you drill holes I'd recommend you contact Hunter to make sure there is not a specific reason for them not being on the 410 - Email: customerservice@huntermarine.com They have been very helpful with other questions I've had.

Hi Ed, Joe has sage advice. Our boat has three...

bilge compartments with the pump located in the center main one. All three bilges have one inch limber holes connecting them so that all bilge water gets picked up by the pump. Terry
