Very helpful

Very helpful. Am having the same problem with the Hunter smell on an 86 H31. When I switched out my bilge float yesterday some lovely stuff came up out of the screw holes. Really fowl. Would think Hunter would have spotted this as a problem and provided an access point(s) and some guidance. But I am finding out 80's era H's come with little guidance from the factory. Thank goodness for the Hunter's Forum

Drilled more holes

I did the same thing as the other Alan with a hole saw. In my case, I drilled with a 4" hole saw straight down through the bottom of the bilge and took out the plug. The smelly water must have gone half way up the liner and it all drained up into the bilge. Good thing the bilge pump was still there. After I got it to run clean with flushing, I dried the bilge with rags. I then continued with the hole saw and completely drilled out the entire bottom of the bilge area which is really just the lowest area of the hull liner. It was about 1/4" thick fiberglass and a piece of rotten plywood (1/2")bonded underneath. I now have my bilge pump mounted on the new bottom. Switching to a dripless packing seal has kept the boat completely dry and odor free. Allan Alchemie H34

I left the hole opened

Each spring when I flush under the Vee berth as I described before I wait till I see clear water coming out the hole.
