Big question, little part

Where can you get winch springs cheap.

I know you can get them from West, but those are not cheap.

Any clues?

I am familiar with that site. Maybe I am missing the obvious? I do not see springs sold separately? I see 01-400 Set of 4 x Ratchet Pawls plus 8 x Springs, but the pawls are fine. All I want is springs.

I have found that all the brands that I have rebuilt use about the same size spring. However, on older winches you usually have a broken spring or two.
Pawls have all be usuable after cleaning.

West (09, page 668) sells a package of 10 for $10.99 or for Lewmar package of 10 for $8.29. My experience with West on such parts is the gross margin is about 200%. These have a Lewmar part number, but that should not matter.

Thanks for the come back. As to your rudder problem, other boats with kick up rudders use a "Lance Cleat" on the top of the transom. See page 672, West 09.
