big problem with kiwi grip

I did a custom tint to several gallons of kiwi grip last summer at Ace hardware on the recommendation of kiwigrip.
We ran out of paint and have one spot to finish. Just bought 2 more quarts to get the job done.

Ace will no longer tint my paint, they changed their system.
Called a PPG store and they wont tint my paint, they changed their system.
Called a Sherwin Williams store and they wont tint my paint. They told me all the retailers have switched systems to a more enviro friendly system. They can't even tint some of their own water based paints as they wont mix.

So beware, it looks like kiwigrip is no longer tintable. You are stuck with their standard colors only. I contacted kiwigrip and I get the standard non answer that I should be able to find a paint store to tint the paint. I dont know if they are dodging me or just dont know what is going on in the world of paint tinting today. One would think they keep up with this sort of issue.

Anyone find a way around this?
Ace told me that without a specific tint base brand, the computer will refuse to do a match. If I know a matching tint base I might get lucky. Kiwigrip does not know what commercial tint base this would match, so that wont work either.

Did you save a can lid with the paint tint "recipe" from the original batch...

Forget the computer get to a store that does "custom tinting" start with your recipe and eyeball from there...

I assume you started with "white"....as a base... if you started with something else...your on your own

Couldn't you just take a sample paint chip to a Lowes or Home Depot and have it scanned? Maybe they will sell you the correct tinting so you can experiment at home. Even if you did have Ace do the tinting, I doubt it would be an exact same match especially doing one small area. Hopefully you started with white like Squidd said.

Nobody will touch it.

I have the original formula from Ace as well as the original sample. Its EPA enviro issues where the new tints may not mix with the old tint base.

Everyone has refused to touch it no matter what.
I never get past that with anyone. Doesnt matter what I have, and of course I bought the recommended by kiwigrip, white tint base.
All the paint stores just flat out say no because of the new paint tinting systems they all have switched to. My only hope at this point is to find a place that hasnt switched to the new system. No luck, and we are full time cruising without a car.

Have you tried automotive paint supplier stores. They may not have switched over and may be able to suggest a workable solution. They seem to know more about paints and mixing than the big box stores.

Your just not going to the right store... Find some one with the old glycol tints and with your recipe you should be golden... (Benjamin Moore)
