at the Harbor View Marina. It looks like covered moorage to me. Estimated 40 plus boats destroyed or burning now (8-31 0830). Video on local KONG 6/16 TV.

What a mess!

Streaming video from KING helicopter just shut down. Looks like all powerboats lost. Sad.

Loss of your boat? How would you feel

Scott, I am guessing that you think your funny, wrong, power boat or sail, you seem to lack the basic understanding that any loss of a boat is difficult at best. Lets set your boat on fire and see how loud you laugh. Amyone have a match? WADA J. R. Setser

I'm sorry to offend you, J.R.

I would not like to lose neither my sailboat nor my ski boat to fire. Fred posts often and we all know him to be compassionate. I just thought it was an interesting string of words considering the rants we all have read in this forum. I was curious if he was being just a little bit sardonic. What say you, Fred?

Sardonic??? I have to look that up. Just a minute,

Nope, many marina's around here are 'working class'. Many of those boat owners are very good people who care about the way they operate those vessels. Ask for help and you'll get it. The fat-cat that doesn't care about his wake is rare, here, anyway. Again, sad. :( P.S. In reading accounts of the blaze from witnesses this morning, the marina was covered so it was powerboat only. The roof caused the flames to spread too fast for anyone to get to the boats. Also, there might have been a bureaucratic prohibition against liveaboards. Only one person was there and he pulled away and saved his boat.

Gig Harbor looks like a neat place

There is a service offered by Google called Google Earth which is an amazing web site. You can view any place on the globe by satelite image just by typing in the place you want to see. It's a free program that you can download from the web site but your computer must have the right stuff. We use this program for work on a regular basis so it's hard to resist taking a peak at various locales. The resolution happens to be very good at Gig Harbor. You can actually see a person walking through a parking lot by zooming to an elevation of just 350' (it actually pinpoints such things as latitude and longitude, ground or water elevation and viewing elevation). You can manually change perspective so that you can look at the sides of a mountain and see profile. Boats are easily recognizable. I am surprised by the number of covered marinas in the Harbor. It looks like a very nice location to own a boat. It's hard to imagine a fire spreading through one of those places on the water. I agree, it is a shame. Fred, I'm glad you have a dictionary. Useful, aren't they?

Scott: Be nice.

I don't care whether it is a power boat or a sail boat, they are all boats, and we are all boaters. No one likes to lose a boat, and we should be supporting each other, and not be thrilled because some power boater lost theirs. If you lose your sailboat, would you like it if some power boater stands there watching the fire and snickers? Sorry, I just don't think it is very funny.
