Hi all,

We are preparing to head south and have been looking through travel guides and charts at possible anchorages along the way. Although I like the three foot drafts you can get in Boston pubs, but our deep draft (7') seems to leave many harbors a bit thin. We're all set from Maine to NYC but through NJ to the C&D Canal there seem to be less choices for our draft. I also have a limiting mast height of 64+ feet. We will be going around Cape May so I'm looking for some places to drop the anchor if we have to and to eventually stop in Baltimore or Annapolis.

You must get the anchorage guides from:

http://www.onthewaterchartguides.com

I'm going to post something on my forum soon about their new anchor guides. They include depths that they actually recorded along their GPS track on the way into anchorages. These books reveal many anchorages that you would never think you could get into according to the charts.

Thanks Roger, those guides look to be well thought out. I also was looking at Active Captain on-line to see what other boaters have commented on in some harbors. There's nothing like some local knowledge to help make those decisions.
Your comment last winter about shifting silt and the rocky shore line makes good sense to me, little changes in the bottom conditions when it's all rock. Since we are going around the "Ditch" in most cases, do the On the Water Guides have plenty of info on the offshore route marinas?

The anchor guides only cover the ICW and don't have any marina information unless the marina is very near the anchorage. However, the information in these guides will let you anchor some places that you wouldn't know you could from the charts. You might be able to do some portions inside without spending money on marinas that you didn't think possible.
