As others have stated, it is very easy to hack most IoT devices and unless you are analyzing the traffic, you have no idea who or what is receiving it. Once it's received you still have no idea. Based on past experiences I assume all companies requesting my data are evil, ignorant or irresponsible (lacking security when holding sensitive user data)
I have a concept I like to call honest advertising. Ads may be present but they should not interfere with usage of a website (or app), cannot place cookies, can not track you in anyway and the closest thing they can get to targeted advertising is ads relevant to website content. Sadly, this is a pipe dream.
