Trailering

Russ: To many headaches: Consider the number of permits you must acquire from the the DOT, federal and state. The maximum width is 8' to 8'6". The max. height in most cases is 13.6'. My h31 with the mast on top of the boat exceeds that. Most professional haulers have extension arms on their trailers to accommadate the mast and that increases the width. The towing vehical to haul it has to be taken into consideration. But yes, it can and is being done. Forrest

We use trailers for our 340 all the time . . . but

We have at least 7 boats on trailers in our small marina, including a Catalina 34, a Hunter 340, a Hunter 336, two Catalina 320s, and a Hunter 310. Oh, the 7th one is a 40 foot C&C. Why do we use trailers? Simple we have no other way to launch our boats on this 200 mile long lake. The trailer has a spare wheel that is mounted to allow the trailer to be tricycled down the ramp, and connected to the Yukon via a nylon strap. Makes for an interesting sight. My boat was hauled on my trailer 250 miles from the nearest marina that could offload it from the semi. We used a one ton truck to pull it. However, I routinely move and lauch my boat with a Yukon. Wouldn't recommend anything that light for the highway, however. The majority of our boats were built by Taylor Manufacturing in Colorado. I would be happy to email you a picture of my boat on the trailer and provide an address for the manufacturer. If you want the full effect, I can send you a video of boat launching and moving. I would say that there is some education that needs to take place before one is comfortable in moving that much weight down the highway. However, we've been doing it for 10 years or more on boats of 30 feet or more. Jim
