Noew I like the Honda BF 2, 2 hp 4 stoke. I only have a little 2 person inflatable. The BF 2 is light (27 lbs), air cooled and has a centrifugal clutch. What do you think? Too small?
Jim:I don't like these air cooled engines. I had an older one several years ago. I beached the dingy and got the HOT engine wet. The cold water caused the engine to sieze. This was an inexpensive engine and that may NOT be a problem with a higher quality engine like the Honda. You may want to consider something like a 4-5 hp 4 stroke. It would push a larger dingy if you ever decide to move up.
As much as I prefer 2 strokes the BF2 is a great little engine! It is as light as most 2 strokes and being air cooled you don't have water pump concerns. As long as it it large enough for your needs you really can't get a better engine.
Jim:I use one on my H170 to get in and out of a narrow river to get to open water. I have had no problems with it. So far, it has been plenty of power to move in any currents I have encountered. You can't beat the weight when lifting it off the boat and into the truck.Chuck
