I always new this site was great at providing help and over the years I both benefited from advice and help and provided it whenever possible. It has also been my good fortune to meet some of the contributors and I surely appreciate the new friendships that were formed that way.

Today, I want to lift my hat off to Dick Bryer (H34) from Toronto. We met on this site and had also been communicating off and on about our 34s and had agreed to meet for a couple of cold ones if the opportunity ever came up.

This year, I am on a 7-week single-handed cruise that took me from Montreal late in June up the St-Lawrence River to the Thousand Islands, then on a circle around Lake Ontario cruising up the NY state coast to Youngstown, then crossing the Lake to Toronto yesterday.

Dick and I finally met and had those cold ones but what I found amazing is that not only did he arrange for reciprocity at his club, but then today went way beyond that by taking time off his boat to drive me to a chandlery so I could get the parts needed to fix a couple of problems I was having. If you know how traffic jams up in downtown Toronto, even on a Saturday, you might understand how badly in debt towards Dick I now feel.

Thank you very much Dick and thanks to this site for providing such opportunities at friendship.

Leaving tomorrow towards Whitby, then Cobourg, going to the Murray Canal, a possible stop in either Trenton or Belleville, then the Bay of Quinte and back to the Thousand Islands before returning to my club on Lake of Two Mountains near Montreal in late August.

Anybody sees Sacripant on a dock or at anchor don't hesitate to come say hello.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
That is how sailors are. I have had friends in an anchorage offer me a few needed supplies to fix an issue. People you have never met lending a hand.

It isn't as simple as throwing a dockline for an incoming boat. It is far more reaching. I have never experienced another sailor passing up an opportunity to help out a fellow sailor.

Spread the wealth! This is what makes us a unique group of people in this day and age!

Great story!

Sailing is indeed the great equalizer. In a world becoming ever more self absorbed it's nice to know there is one place we can retreat to and find others that are self sacrificing.

but having to take the mast up and down 3 times this season for such a trip is enough. If I took you up on it can you arrange for the low bridges and powerlines on the Rideau Canal to be raised so I don't need to drop it one more time ??? :D:D
