According to the manual the gearbox should be left in reverse or in neutral. It should
never be left in forward as that will turn the engine over without properly lubricating it.
I suggest checking the manual....
I have always kept mine in forward as the power on the prop is not
enough to turn the gearbox as it also has to turn the engine which needs
some power! Must admit I havent read the manual. I have the Hurth 40,
usual gearbox supplied with a Beta is the Technodrive TMC40 now.
Beta engines supplied with the TMC40 gearbox should be left in neutral
or reverse when sailing, never forward, as the cluches will slip causing
excessive wear.
