What do you need to know?

First of all it just ain't a bolt up and go. No matter what anyone sez. If you hire someone to do it it will run another 3k. could even be more. It's a boat therefore it will cost 3 times what you thnk and 4 times the cost. Fair Winds Cap'n Dave

Get all of the drawings that you can

measure, measure, measure. If it could cost 3K, how much do you make per hour? I made the change from an Atomic four to a Volvo 2001 look pretty easy but there was about three weeks of very careful planning involved.

Thinking about repowering

As the present owner of a Isl. 32 MK II and a past owner of a Pearson 30, both powered by the mighty A-4, I would only consider repowering with a new diesel (Yanmar preferred brand up this way) IF I planned to keep the boat at least 10 years, more like 20. Difficult to recoup cost of diesel compared to a rebuilt A-4. I've been told the cost of a new diesel will be 2X that of a rebuilt Moyer A4, when you factor in new engine beds, et. Good luck! electric motor

Has anyone seriously considered one of the electric motors? I am curious but never to the point on any reasearch. I read in one of the sailing mags where they were installing them in some new boats now but cant remember what kind.

The ozmotor is $5600, plus needs 4-6 batteries. It looks like an alternative if you never exceed 20 miles motoring. No good for Intercoastal or dead air crossing.

My volvo 2001 series with transmission

new prop shaft and prop fuel tank and all the sundries din't cost that much. And on eighty pounds of fuel I can go 120 miles.
