Going to disassemble the cooler on my Beta. Does the core come out after the end cover is removed? I assume I have to drain some of the coolant to lower the level before doing this. Two O rings? Colin... V-703, Isis
Yes, that's right. The core comes right out - you might need to disconnect
the exhaust tube if you're taking out out that way. Took me two days to
coax it out the first time as I was so scared of breaking the thing (and it
was jammed in with a load of crud).
best to change the two O rings and teh wasting anode. Core comes out and can be cleaned. Bolt in each end of the end cones. Coolant will have to be drained or it will drain itself when you take the core out!!
HiThe way it's designed, the seawater should drain out anyway if it is above the water line, but even if it contained seawater the water will run out as the two retaining bolts are loosened and not enter the coolant because the O-rings that seal between the coolant and seawater will remain in place. This will make sense when you pull it apart to inspect it.
Cheers - Jeff.
I should add the sequence is disconnect the rear hoses (this will allow excess water to drain), undo the front retaining bolt after and then undo the rear bolt.PS don't drop the front bolt. It can fall down behind the starter and then the alternator needs to be taken off to reach it. Don't ask me how I know lol.
Also you will need to top up the coolant when done. If it was anything like my heat exchanger it might also be a good time to descale it.
If you ran aground on a soft bottom I would think the salt water portion of the heat exchanger or one of the hoses to it are plugged with mud. That will cause a high temp alarm to sound.
If you ever drop a nut or washer into an inaccessible place there is a tool that can be found at auto parts stores, a telescoping magnet. It can reach into and remove small metal parts from hard to reach places.Don KeenanSent from my iPhoneKeenandoBoulder, CO
