Ok, I know this is really wacky but every once in a while I have wacky thoughts.

We just watched the movie The Book of Eli, it's one of those post nuclear war flix where everyone is surviving by their wits. I wondered what it would be like to live on the water if most all of our infrastructure went down.

What boat, boat feature or location would you seek/acquire to live completely off the grid for an extended period?

Wacky, I know but there has got to be 1 or 2 other "crazys" on here!

The QE 11 beached somewhere in New Zealand. She would be my palace with all the luxury anyone could ever want.

See Costner's movie "Water World" .. Looked like a viable solution to me

True, but I'm not so hot on using my own pee to supply the water maker!

PS,

I know this is wacky but what would you want? Solar, wind, water makers, fiberglass or aluminum?

The guys and girls at the space station are using the ...uuuuhhhhh ... recycled liquid in their membrane watermaker..
an evaporative watermaker probably is the only long term solution here down below..
Definitely fiberglass to avoid corrosion.
Gonna have to be solar plus wind.. Thing is, the battery supply would disappear within about 4-5 years when folks stopped making them. and all the ones on the shelves sulfated ..

Lead acid batteries could be home made. The tough part would be finding/making sulfuric acid. There will be millions of non-usable cars sitting around all with an alternator. I would find as many of those that I could and keep them for generating. Since fuel would be tough to come by, I would probably see what it would take to make a steam engine.
And in those post apocalyptic movies why is everyone living in the desert?? Maybe they didn't notice that there is no water in the desert.

a solar panel will power an invertor quite nicely. why use bats?/isnt gonna be anyone around to email anyway..LOL..besides --would have ot make cell towers or something..lol...i just finished testing my solar panel with my 400 wtt invertor--wrks great. i am ready.

dont need too many solar panels either--one of the 130 wtt ones powers my dell from hell, just in case someone is still reading typo...lol

We have the advantage of about 300 miles of little-used coastline, as well as lots of rain. There are people who live full-time on their boats and rarely if ever tie to a dock. I think my Lady and I would do just fine on the boat we have.

Best Survival Boat

would be the one with the most firepower on it so people could not screw with you. There was an article about some boats transiting the red sea who were attacked. A couple of blasts from a 12 gauge saved their bacon.

Remember "When they outlaw guns only criminals will have guns!" So don't tell anyone.
