Bill - Ouch!

You're right, I was just kidding. To be honest I like it to be quiet when I sail. Just want to hear the water on the hull and the wind in the sails. Randy

Forget Jimmy...

Give this a try. In my opinion he sounds better than Jimmy's stuff. Eric plays at all of the sail expo shows during the Lats&Atts parties. Boatsongs volumes 1, 2 and 3 are really good with 2 being the best. Russ

Get To Mystic Seaport

Try the Mystic Seaport website, or when in Connecticut, check out their incredible music collection in the store; from sea chanty's to Victory at Sea, they carry one of the largest collections of sea-faring music on the planet at one location. For me its Pat Methany, but we all do have different tastes. Regard Bob Cat 30

if it's not Irish, had better be Scottish..

to be more specific, try a band called Amadan www.amadanusa.com those tunes will keep your toe tappin and a smile on your face in even the ugliest weather. or nothing floats away in the wind the sound of traditional scottish pipes.. good ol' blues will keep ya company like Johnny Lang.. or how about some slow mellow tues from Amelia www.ameliaband.com happy sails

What about Leonard Skinner or ZZ Top?

I'm surpized that "Sweet Home Alabama" or "Legs" hasn't got as vote yet. Great suggestions all around. I e-mailed the responses (so far) to my daughter and she is beginning the process of selecting songs and compilling the CD. NOTE: She purchases all of her music on-line, so the artists are getting paid and there is no copyright issue. Keep the suggestions coming Thanks Richard

LOL @ JB gone country

Daryl, your comment about Buffett gone country and it aint like his old stuff IMHO, is just plain wrong. it is exactly like his "old stuff". A1A, Pink Sportcoat, SYKBH, are all Carribean Cowboy stuff. might not be like his "new old stuff" but, diffently like his "old stuff'. ;) and for those that dont like Jimmy, I can only say there is no accounting for good taste! LOL!

Wrong e-mail address

Sorry for the mistake. My response #2 incorrectly listed the e-mail address, it should be migrationradio.com

Final Results

I'm hoping you'll "reward" us with the titles, once she settles on the contents. Might want to duplicate the list.

I will - re: Final Titles and commentary

I will gladly list the final CD content (and my commentary) after I get the CD. The only caveat is that my taste in music and my daughter's penchant for practical jokes may result in a fairly eclectic disc. best regards, Richard

Dump the CD's

and go XM. We've got 400+ discs onboard and we haven't listened to one in weeks. However, on a nice day out... if we want smooth it might be, Alan Parsons Project "On Air" if we're feelin' funky it might be, Tower of Power "TOP" if we're feelin' blue(s) it might be, Gary Moore "Blues Alive" if we want to rock, well, start with Extreme "3 Sides to Every Story" Is a subwoofer considered cruising equipment?

Final Farewell

My wife reminded me that a sailing collection, especially one for listening to WHILE sailing would be incomplete without "The Final Farewell". Many may not recognize the title, but it's a ballad that starts with: There's a ship lies rigged and ready in the harbor Tomorrow for old England she sails Far away from your land of endless sunshine To my land full of rainy skies and gales And I shall be aboard that ship tomorrow Though my heart is full of tears at this farewell For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly More dearly than the spoken word can tell I still like Black Water as my first choice, but this is a good one too, and gotta keep the first mate happy.

Ooops, LAST Farewell, not Final

That should have been "Last Farewell", not "Final Farewell"

Freebird an Absolute Must

All you Buffet being country doubters his only #1 hit was a country tune you might also go rent the movie "Nashville". This is a really good idea now that I think of what should be on there. Two more that I would have on mine. "Victory at Sea" and for us south of the border Ray Charles "America the Beutiful" Oh, and Willie Nelson's "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" and Handel's "Water Music"Another tune though way over done a while ago is Louis Armstrongs "What a Wonderful World. I am looking forward to the final list

How about a 60's tune for your 50th?

Sloop John B; Beach Boys We come on the sloop John B My grandfather and me Around Nassau town we did roam Drinking all night Got into a fight Well I feel so broke up I want to go home So hoist up the John B's sail See how the mainsail sets Call for the Captain ashore Let me go home, let me go home I wanna go home, yeah yeah Well I feel so broke up I wanna go home The first mate he got drunk And broke in the Cap'n's trunk The constable had to come and take him away Sheriff John Stone Why don't you leave me alone, yeah yeah Well I feel so broke up I wanna go home So hoist up the John B's sail See how the mainsail sets Call for the Captain ashore Let me go home, let me go home I wanna go home, let me go home Why don't you let me go home (Hoist up the John B's sail) Hoist up the John B I feel so broke up I wanna go home Let me go home The poor cook he caught the fits And threw away all my grits And then he took and he ate up all of my corn Let me go home Why don't they let me go home This is the worst trip I've ever been on So hoist up the John B's sail See how the mainsail sets Call for the Captain ashore Let me go home, let me go home I wanna go home, let me go home Why don't you let me go home

Jim Morris for sure!!

After surviving the annual Cheeseburger in caseville festival (www.cheeseburgerincaseville.com) I've gotta say our new favorite band (Sorry Jimmy, you gotta share the limelight) is Jim Morris!!! His recording studio and tourbus were just demolished in hurricae Charley but the band still made it up to Michigan to put on several shows and they are truly hilarious and fantastic, perfect Boat music! Our new theme song is the floating opera..... http://www.jim-morris.com/home.htm THE FLOATING OPERA © 2002 by Jim Morris Chorus We’ve got beer kegs and crab legs And spiced rum and weenies And guitars and steel drums And girls in bikinis We’re laughing, we’re singing We’re dancing, we’re high One hellacious Floating Opera going by Let’s go out on the boat It’s such a beautiful day So we pull out of St. Michaels For a spin ‘round the Chesapeake Bay We’ve got bars to explore We’ve got the whole damn Eastern shore We’ve got sunny skies and light winds Food and booze and good friends We’re gonna have ourselves A party along the way Repeat Chorus There’s a sailboat in distress And we feared the worst It was cruising with an all girl crew So we’re glad we got there first Didn’t have to ask them twice They were running low on ice Their beer supply depleted No, no your bathing suits aren’t needed Hop on board before you die of thirst Repeat Chorus What was in that crazy potion we drank That made us form that conga line And dance right off the plank We continued to explore Kent Island to Baltimore The sun was a tiny sliver When we cruised up the Choptank River Mooning everybody on the shore Repeat Chorus
