I am just upsizing to a Catalina 30. it has a universal 21hp diesel with a folding prop. i would like to change it out for a fixed, but don't know what prop to look for. I understand there are different possibilities depending on conditions for me, but just want a "middle of the road" prop. I sail in Nova Scotia, Canada, open Atlantic conditions can prevail.
Can anyone advise.

Campbell sailor 3-blade.
Call or email them and they will recommend the diameter & pitch.

You will need to know the details on your reduction gear.

I betcha

If you do some looking around, there is someone out there with the same hull/engine combination, that would love to trade you a three blade for yours. There is always someone who always wants to go just a little faster.

CDI - (the roller furling folks) - also sell polyurethane props. On my Catalina 28 I've been happy with it so far, it seems that I have less vibration and noise from the engine, slightly more speed for the rpm.
I was considering a three blade when this was suggested on the Catalina 28 group.
The folks at CDI were great, they actually answer the phone and have conversations about the product.

Hhhmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I have to wonder if the poly things would be any more resistant to growth of barnacles and such.

I purchased a campbell sailor last year and am quite impressed with it. I have a Hunter 30 with a Yanmar 15 hp. In short, i recommend it.

Thanks to all. I am still just toying with the idea I guess. I will try the folding first, before jumping.... "ship" (pardon the pun)
i will enjoy being a part of the forum line, and hopefully add an idea for someone else too.

Hunter 1980 - 33 Bradenton
Switched from a two blade to a three blade about 7 years ago. Much more power and with the right size and pitch better rpm's. Don't know about shipping to Canada but this is a very good source for information and propellers, Admiral C&B Propellers.
