HOW about a Biscayne Bay flotilla?

Sounds like there are a few So Fla. area HOW members. Anyone interested in a little get together?

FYI...

Just so no one feels excluded, I want to point out that shared forums (such as this one) are also read by owners of Catalinas, Beneteaus, and O'Days... p.

Columbia River, a different view

I love that Scott's glass is half full whereas mine is half empty where the Columbia River is concerned. I hate that you can't even go a mile (on most days) without tacking or gybing. I hate that you can only travel one of two directions. The nasty current is a fantastic learning tool but it gets old after awhile. I hate how polluted the water is, so I can't even go swimming without fear of "contamination." I hate how ugly-brown the water is. I hate all the flotsam that threatens my boat every time I go out. But most of all I hate the weather. I love the beauty of the scenery and that we *can* sail all year (not that you want to!) but the other stuff outweighs it. As may have guessed, I'm a little down on Portland of late. No offense, just personal frustrations. Where's your boat, Scott? I'm in N Portland Harbor near Island Cafe (but on the other side of the slough). LaDonna

Biscayne Bay flotilla

You know, That sounds like a good idea; I'd like to go, if I can make all the right factors line up. As an aside to Bryan C and Phil, Why limit it to Hunter owners? Why not invite all the C2-site dwellers? --Jon Bastien H23 / H25 owner (...or am I owned by them?)

I'm not exclusive...

Didin't mean to exclude our Cat/Bene/O'day friends, even if they do sail inferior boats. :) (LaDonna will get even with me on the CWBB). I'll start a new thread on this "Ask all Sailors" forum to see whose interested.

Yo, LaDonna!

Well, I couldn't find any other way to respond, so here it is. My Cat 30 is moored at the Scappoose Bay Marina, mainly to save on $$. ($90/mo including shorepower). However, I've been thinking about moving it to Portland because the drive to the current moorage is about 40 miles. I agree with most of what you've said about the Columbia, but every place has its drawbacks. Take San Diego, for example. I sailed there for 4 years. Yeah, you can sail year 'round. But the wind usually sucks, there's no place to dock in the Bay, the area is rotten with kelp, and there's no reasonably close place to sail once you're in the ocean. Then there's the multi-hundred $$ slip fees, the abuse the boat takes from the sun and salt....Believe me, the Columbia ain't so bad. Scott

pacific nw allright but...

you forgot to tell everyone about the million plus boats all trying to get to the same anchorage you want to go to, and the about the park service guy coming around to collect $ every day. alaska would be my second vote. but my first would be any where they dodnt speak english, and no canada dosnt count.

SF Bay and Delta

The San Francisco Bay and Delta is hard to beat. SF Bay has world class sailing and the connected California Delta has world class gunkholing. We berth our boat in the Delta but are enjoying the Bay for a couple of months. I have to admit that I'm longing to try some of the places others have mentioned. How big does my 401K have to be before I can retire?
