Based on experiences here, what would be the best place to list a sailboat boat online for sale. Thanks Jim

Sold Two Here

Both were advertised elsewhere as well. Both sales came from this site (remember that this is a shared marketplace, so you can advertise any brand of sailboat on it). Rick D.

right here

I have bought two boats right here and also sold one. People on this site seem to be serious buyers rather than just "tire kickers"

Bought and sold a boat

I sold my old power boat on boats.com. I think it was $50/month. It automatically renewed each month until I cancelled. It worked well for me and generated more calls than the local paper, and I'm on Cape Cod so there are a lot of boats around. It appeared to me to be one of the better online places. I found my new sailboat listed under hunterowners.com. Good luck! Brian

Hard to Say

Jim, I'm not sure there is a good place to sell a boat right now. I've got ad on this site and have had no hits from the ad. I also have an ad on boats.com and have only had one person write me and he was from Mexico. The guy was legit but decided not to buy the boat after he found out what it would cost to get it delivered to Mexico, go figure. Anyway there seem to be little interested in sailboats right now. I know guys at our lake that have been trying to sell boats for a year now with now luck. We'll if I could sell mine they would have some luck I guess. Jason

boattraderonline.com

I purchased my boat from an ad in boat trader online. I am now looking for my next boat, but looking all over.

Buyer's market

It is always a buyer's market when it comes to used boats so selling any used sailboat can be slow unless you get lucky and happen to be selling a boat that someone else happens to have a fever for. You might consider yachtworld.com as well as this site. This is a great site but folks new to sailing may not be aware of it. I found mine on yachtworld.com ... Many folks list on several sites. Boattraderonline.com is also a good site, as is boats.com. Plenty of used boats out there, good luck.

On the contrary

Folks considering one of the brands we have sites for (Hunter, Catalina, Oday, Mac, Beneteau) and doing even the slightest research online are going to find these sites early and often. Actually, I think Yachtworld is probably better known by experienced boat buyers but harder to find for newbies.

Just sold one here.

I just finished the sale of an H23 yesterday. The sale was through an ad I placed here, although I also had an ad on boats.com for 2 months (at $50 per month!). I had no idea how much traffic each of the 2 sites would get, relative to each other, but I am now sure that sailboatowners.com got much better results. I started in late April with 2 months here for $20, with no pictures. I had a few inquiries, but no luck. In early May, I paid $50 for a boats.com article with 7 pictures. After 2 months of this, the boats.com article drew a few inquiries, with no sale resulting. Then in late June, I upgraded the sailboatowners.com ad to one with 7 pictures. Within a week, I had maybe 5 inquires from the new sailboatowners ad, one of which led to the sale. I kept getting inquiries from this last ad, even when I added an "under contract" sentence to the ad. So besides being a much better price (sailboatowners was $32 for 2 months with pictures, vs. $50 at boats.com for one month with pictures. And part of the $32 was a one-time fee for uploading the pictures), I seem to have gotten much more interest from the ad I placed here. That's my experience: good luck with your sale.

One more thing...

I think yachtworld.com only takes ads from brokers. Perhaps someone else can confirm this. But it certainly is a nice place to browse!
