Best place to rig a hammock topside?

Anyone out there have any good ideas on where/how to rig a topside hammock? I've got a Hunter 49 and despite the space, it doesn't seem all that suitable for a easily removal hammock install. Thoughts?

Ours goes between the forestay and the mast.

We put a line around the fiorestay, with a halyard attached to it to keep that end at the height we want. On the mast end it is attached to the spinnaker pole ring but a line around the mast with another halyard woulddo the trick there as well.

Happy lounging

I use a hammock from ENO. They make "slap straps" that are nylon straps with a loop at one end, and a series if loops sewn on so that you loop one strap around the furled jib/forestay, and the other around the mast. Then, just clip the hammock anywhere along the strap where there are loops. Just google ENO slap straps. I love the hammock because it crumples up into a small bag.

Wisp,

On my Hunter 45, I essentially wrap a few winds of line around the furled jib sail to hook the hammock up at one end and tie it off around the main mast shrouds at the other end.

This method doesn't put anymore stress on the forestay then it would see with the Jib sail deployed,...And it's free.

James

There was a guy in Catalina last year who hung his from both ends of the spinnaker pole. He was then able to swing it out over the water.

I have never had a problem. Weight is split. I would say it is less load than an ATN tacker with a loaded spinnaker.

No damage at all. It's much less stress than an asymmetrical spinnaker hooked on the the furled jib, or a gale rider.

Well, I took all your good advice, purchased two hammocks (a single and a double) from ENO. I installed them over the weekend from the mast to the forestay and they work like a charm! Couldn't be happier! Was planning to sleep topside last nigh until it started to rain :( Thanks everyone for the advice!

BTW, the slap straps worked perfectly and used the spin halyard to keep the forestay strap from slipping.

That's great! I bought the canopy cover from ENO, too, and use it above the hammock for the same you reason you just experienced. It also works great for a shady spot on the bow at anchor or at the marina.

The hammock I got off of eBay for under $7.00. Tied with 2 prusiks. Hammock binered to the prusiks. My son did have a funny pattern on his back. Lol
