"Deep Water" is a documentary about the first round the world sailboat race which was won by Robin Knox Johnston in 1967. This movie is made up entirely of real footage of the 9 solo sailors and the hype surrounding the race. I watched this movie last week and was mesmerized by it. Though highly entertaining, this is not normal Hollywood fare. There is no acting here... just a real glimpse into the circumnavigation of 9 sailors, one of them an amateur.
Sorry if I sound like a review critic or something, but this documentary is great if you like real life stories with more plot twists then a made for hollywood movie.
If you do a search on it don't get it mixed up with other movies called deepwater. This IFC film is two words, Deep Water, made in 2006 about the amateur in the race, Donald Crowhurst. See the link for a review.
By the way, some of the boats they sailed in this race probably weren't a whole lot beefier then my '93 26s! Well, maybe a little!
PS- if you do watch this, don't miss the specia features section with interviews of Robin Knox Johnston and the other sailors who were still living at the time the film was made!! Great stuff.
