Best material for cushions

I am planning on having my cushions recovered and wondered what the best material would be. I like the look of the suede type material they are putting on a lot of boats but it shows "seating" marks if anyone sits down for any length of time. The admiral likes leather clothe but I think that would be too hot and uncomfortable when wearing shorts.

Sunbrella

I recovered my cushions this year and used sunbrella furniture fabric. It is a little more plyable and softer then the stuff they use to make boat tops. Some advantages are that it is very stain, water and mildew resistant. Easy to sew too. Lots of colors but not many patterns to choose from. Tim

Sunbrella too

I just started redoing my cushions with Sunbrella too. Found a great deal at www.outdoorfabrics.com

Yeah, Beatrice, sure, right!

Great stuff, Naugahyde, great for diner stools and booths, that is, but all kidding aside, I would not allow it on my boat. What cushions are being recovered? If it's cockpit cushions I would recommend Phyfertex. It's an open weave plasticized fabrice very like a fine netting that keeps you and the cushions dry. We also opted for fairly stiff closed cell foam in thos cushions. They are big enough to be water toys.

not naugahide

but other "imitation leather" is pretty common on new boats. A friend had their salon redone this way, it is beautiful and comfortable - not like the old car interiors. But it isn't cheap either. Lots of choices. Just about any fabric will do. Most vendors have lines that are specifically color fast. Go to marine canvas place that has the catalogs and look and look and look. Prints should be from Sunbrella or specifically made to be outside - so the colors don't run if they get wet. (There is a lot of this is for pool-side furniture.)
