In your humble (yet correct) opinion, what is the best looking sailboat? Not "what boat do you dream about owning?", as that implies there are considerations other than looks that would influence your choice, but what boat makes you stop and stare with joy/envy? I go for the traditional look: I can't look at a Pearson Triton or Vanguard, or an Allied Seabreeze without wishing I were aboard, sailing to Block Island. On the other end of the price scale, I love all of the new luxury daysailers like the the Alerions, the Hinckley and the Morris. Someone also just pointed out to me the Spirit line of boats, one of which was featured in the new Bond movies. I don't really want to own one; I just want it to be docked next to my boat and to be invited along for the occasional sail. How about you?

My favorites are the original Ericson 35 and the C&C designs from the 1980s and the Hinckley Bermuda 40. My favorite wooden boat is probably the Concordia Yawl.

Shear !!!!!!
All the boats you mentioned have VERY graceful shear. Im addicted to and alway wind up with a boat that has ..... 'graceful shear'. When you speak with / read about, etc. all of the 'reknown past and current' top designers - what seems to be the most time consuming process in their designs is in getting the shear lines visually correct. (Which leads me to believe most of the 'production boat' designers must be paid on an hourly basis <g>.

I used to sail one of those for a while. Must have been the heaviest dinghy I ever had to lift with the exception of a watrerlogged Mirror I learned to sail on. 1 of the first 5 imported into the US in the 70s. Tim R.

The best looking sailboat?
Why the best looking sailboat in the world is our first sailboat, a 21' 1974 Aquarius, which we just bought two weeks ago! Yes sailors, we realize love is blind and once the honeymoon is over we might view her with a more candid eye but for now she is our pride. It was love at first sight for me. My husband was shocked when I exclaimed "you would be crazy not to buy her!" as I had just told him I "was not going to buy some ragidy old sailboat we'd have to work on for years before we could learn to sail so there was no sense checking out the boat". I'm so glad we looked at her and my husband was thrilled to hear me say "honey, I was sure wrong". Well, we have yet to see but for now, she is a thing of beauty.

Your boat
I think most everyone has a special place in their heart for their own boat (or past boat). From childhood I've always admired the NorSea 27. I have only seen a few including one docked in San Diego a couple years back. This past summer I saw a similar looking boat at our docks, the Baba 30. Both have a somewhat exotic/romantic look about them.
