My wife and I are interested in taking the ASA 103 & 104 courses in a live aboard situation this spring / summer. We are considering San Diego, San Francisco & San Juan Islands for the instruction location. From our non educated perspective we think San Juan would be best for experience with navigation & currents, San Francisco would be best for wind & tides and San Diego would just be great weather. Any advice to offer?

You pretty well know the differences between the three locations.

Ed, if you haven't been in the islands here

you should come on up. If before June the mountains should still be snow covered, no crowds, and if a live aboard class, where anchored out at night, you can't beat it.

Seamist Skippers - Marina Del Rey

If you want to stay closer to home you could try Seamist Skippers in Marina Del Rey. They offer a great "live aboard" ASA 103/104 program. You spend 6 days sailing Santa Monica Bay and Catalina Island.

When I used to live in CA, I took ASA 101 and 103 from the Santa Barbara Sailing Center.

Seamist has a great program, boats and skippers. I have been dock mates with them for many years. Impressive. See their link.
