In my new style (1987) I have my Humminbird depth finder transducer in the V berth locker compartment right behind the water jug that feeds the sink. This is about 2 feet in front of the keel.

Ken, why did you mount the reader inside the cabin?

My gauge is mounted on the rear facing bulkhead in the cockpit so it can be read while sailing, especially if your are single handing.I would also mount the sender without drilling a hole in the keel as it sounds like you have.Depending on the unit Anne has she could do the same.Ray

I had originally made a teak ring for it thinking people we took sailing with us might kick it, but in the five years its been mounted there I can say no one has hit it with there feet.
